5 GROUND RULES FOR CREATIVE JOURNALING

are you struggling to enjoy the benefits of creative journaling?

TRY KEEPING THESE 5 GROUND RULES IN MIND NEXT TIME YOU PULL YOUR JOURNAL OUT AND EXPERIENCE A NEW WAY OF JOURNALING

form a habit

Making this a regular habit will be transformative for your mindset and personal development. Journaling little and often will be far more beneficial than a once a month session. Building a habit can take time but there are some tips and tricks you can use - I share them in this blog post.

embrace imperfection

Creative journaling is not about creating pretty pages with neat handwriting and perfect images. It is much more about the process and the journey you experience during the time of writing and creating. Your truth will emerge so much sooner and so much stronger if you let go of the need for perfection and trust in the process and the unfolding of your creativity.

Experiment

Keep experimenting and playing in your journal, try new things and see what style you prefer. You can try list making, free writing, doodling, mark making, collage, poetry . . . the list is endless. Most importantly remember that this is YOUR journal and you can use it however you choose, you do not need to try copy other journal pages you might see online.

Make it accessible

Make a space for yourself and your journaling - just little nook in your home will do. The simple act of leaving your journal out in plain sight will support you in actually using it. You could even make a mini art kit or travel art kit so that your supplies are always within reach.

PRIVACY is allowed

You’re allowed to keep your creative journal private if you choose, if you are concerned that others may see it you may not write or create as freely as you could. Sometimes writing all your thoughts out on the page as a ‘background’ before getting creative with art making over the top, can help with the release of getting all your words out and keeping them ‘safely contained’ so others cannot see.
